LAFAYETTE, CO – USA Rugby announced today the launch of a new training and education initiative called the National Development Tour (NDT), where edification of the yearly National Development Summit (NDS) is brought to each corner of the United States. This tour will officially operate in place of the single-weekend NDS format for the 2020 season.
Nine cities populate the first portion of the tour this spring with stops in Oklahoma, Portland, OR, Chicago, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, DC, Boston and Salt Lake City. Each assembly will feature keynote presentations and clinics from a combination of USA Rugby High Performance and Referee Panel, Women’s Premier League and Major League Rugby, similar to NDS. Additionally, participants have the opportunity for certification through the weekend with referee, coaching, administrative, strength & conditioning and medical courses all available. Registration for the first three assemblies is now open in Oklahoma, Oregon and Chicago.

“This is incredibly exciting for our educational reach,” said USA Rugby Director of Training and Education, Kenny Forehand, “NDS has always been a great resource for all-in-one learning, this tour really brings more access to that model as we multiply the opportunity by coming to your region.
With a busy spring of rugby here domestically, the National Development Tour is partnering with Major League Rugby and the HSBC LA7s to incentivize participant experience around the MLR Las Vegas Weekend and HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Working in tandem with each event, registrants have the unique opportunity to be part of both rugby development and the fan experience.
USA Rugby Sr. Director or Training and Education, Jamie McGregor added, “Very much looking forward to getting out within the community. There is no shortage of activity with multiple certifications available, the WPL and MLR, and of course the integration of High Performance. Lots to be consumed in these eventful weekends. Including for some, an MLR match and fan experience.”
As with NDS in past years, the National Development Tour brings influencers of the game to aspiring administrators with presentations and clinics from USA Rugby High Performance and Referee Panel. Women’s Eagles Head Coach Rob Cain will join other National Team coaches and National Panel Referee Lee Bryant for select stops this spring. Additionally, representatives and coaches from Major League Rugby and the Women’s Premier League will for the first time join USA Rugby Training and Education to support the development of each participant.
Registration is now open for Oklahoma, Oregon and Chicago with further information to come on the remaining cities. For more information and to register, visit education.usarugby.org.
